How the Fresh 'n' Rebel Smart Finder Card Works

Apple Find My Network & Bluetooth

The Smart Finder Card uses low-power Bluetooth to communicate with nearby Apple devices and works through Apple's Find My network. It does not use GPS, a SIM card or a mobile data connection. When your own iPhone is nearby, the card communicates directly with it through Bluetooth. When it is outside Bluetooth range, nearby Apple devices can detect its Bluetooth signal and securely send its approximate location to the Find My network.

What It Relies On When Out of Bluetooth Range

The card relies on nearby Apple devices being present to update its location. It does not have a fixed update interval and cannot update its position by itself. In a busy airport, shopping centre or café, many Apple devices may pass close enough to detect it, so its location could be updated several times within a short period. In a quiet street, park or other area with few people, an update may take much longer. If no compatible Apple device passes nearby, the Find My app will continue showing the last location that was reported.

Location Updates in Busy & Quiet Areas

The frequency of location updates depends entirely on how often an Apple device comes within Bluetooth range of the card. There is therefore no guaranteed update time such as every 5 or 10 minutes. Busy areas can produce frequent updates, while isolated areas can leave the tracker showing the same location for hours or until another Apple device comes nearby.

GPS, Mobile Network & Internet Connection

The Smart Finder Card does not contain GPS, a SIM card or its own mobile internet connection. Its tracking system is based on Bluetooth and Apple's Find My network. The nearby Apple device does the work of detecting the card and sending its location through the Find My network.

Low-Power Bluetooth Operation

The card uses a low-power Bluetooth signal rather than continuously communicating over a mobile network. This helps keep power consumption low and allows the tracker to operate for a long period between charges.
